2013 Style Anywhere

January 28, 2013

This past Friday I was responding to some messages from our lovely Julie Lopez Facebook fans (like us here if you haven’t yet), and I had a national morning news show on my TV while I was working.  (See? I keep up with more than just fashion news- politics, entertainment, world events, all of it.  I actually got to thinking- maybe all this current political back and forth is just a product of people wearing uncomfortable shoes.  I know I’m much less agreeable when my feet hurt.  Just sayin’. But I digress.)

So anyways, the meteorologist comes onscreen and immediately starts talking about “bundling up” and I couldn’t help myself- I started laughing.  You see, while I did spend the better part of a year once upon a time living up in Wisconsin, last Friday I was at my desk in Houston, wearing a short sleeve t-shirt and contemplating whether to wear flip flops or tennis shoes to go grab lunch in the near 80 degree weather we were having.

It seems like this time of year brings out the starkest of contrasts in weather in our great nation, so what better time to put together some outfits for 2013 style- no matter what part of the country you currently find yourself in.

One last note before the outfits- for those of you thinking I’m bragging when I talk about the Houston temperatures, trust me, I’m not.  If Bret Michaels taught us anything on Rock of Love, it’s that every rose does in fact have its thorn, and thus, for every 75 and sunny January day, you can be sure we’re going to get a 105 muggy muggy frizzy hair humid day come August in return. :)

So I’ve taken two of my favorite 2013 trends and tried to create some fun outfits.  First up, a pop of pink for those of you still shoveling snow.  I don’t know about you, but nothing makes me happier clothing wise than something pink, and when grounded with basic black done right (aka our Nappa and Patent Mia heels), it’s a year round staple.

Next up is our warm weather outfit, which just so happens to use the exact same shoe. I have to admit- I am utterly crazy about both of these trends- and I don’t think I’m alone on this next one.  I can’t think of a single person who doesn’t live for classic black and white.  It’s so easy, so timeless, and best of all- it means we all get to be right on trend without even having to buy a single new item.  Unless of course you don’t yet have a pair of our heels.  Belated New Years Resolution- stop the pain.  Be kind to your feet, but still look fabulous in the process. :)

Confession time- I went a little crazy with this outfit.  I knew I wanted to do black and white, and when I saw the houndstooth a-line skirt, my little southern heart just went pitter patter.  Then I found the peter pan black top and from there it was a straight nosedive into polka dots, pearls, wayfarers, and everything else that was mandatory attire during my college days. And then I looked at the outfit, convinced I had gone overboard and out of date, and realized this outfit still totally works for today.  See what I mean about black and white? It always works. :)
